The ARC XVI Fort Washington Senior Center, located at 4111 Broadway, has been a “second home” to thousands of seniors of the Washington Heights-Inwood area since 1973. For 43 years ARC XVI has provided free meals, social services, transportation, recreational activities and classes such as dancing, arts and culture, health and wellness, and ESL to seniors.

Unfortunately ARC’s landlord, Christ Church United Methodist, is refusing to resign their lease that ends December 2016. ARC XVI Executive Director Fern Hertzberg is requesting a three year lease extension so the center has time to find a new suitable space that will provide these services to our seniors.

Several rallies have been held by Hertzberg and clients, including one on September 8th, where she, along with NY State Sen. Adriano Espaillat and Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez asked the Christ Church United Methodist to extend the center’s lease. Despite Hertzberg and the center’s efforts, the Christ Church United Methodist refuses to let the center stay past their December 2016 deadline, leaving thousands of seniors without access to services they depend on.

The ARC XVI Washington Senior Center needs your help in their continuation to provide services to thousands of seniors in the Washington Heights-Inwood area.
